After reading Future Self - Talking to your future self
Introduction: Time to design my future
When we think of our “future self,” we have mixed feelings of hope and fear. ‘Future Self’ emphasizes the importance of a life that we design ourselves, rather than a life given simply through the passage of time. This book discovers the connection between the present and the future and guides us through the process of creating the future we want. Today, I would like to share the lessons I felt while reading this book and examples of applying them in real life.
Main body: Future Self’s main messages and practice cases
1. Talk to your future self
The most memorable part of the book is “Conversations with My Future Self.” Imagining what my future self will require of my present self is a powerful motivator. For example, if I want to live a healthy and active life 10 years from now, I will need to exercise and eat properly today.
Real life example: After reading this, Iㅖㅣㅖmade a habit of walking 30 minutes every day. It was a small step at first, but after 6 months, I lost weight and my health checkup results improved noticeably. By recording these changes and sharing them on my blog, I received encouragement and support from others.
2. The power of habits and small changes
The book emphasizes that our habits shape our identity and future. It was an amazing insight to learn that small habits that grow by 1% a day can ultimately completely change our lives.
Actual example: As someone who runs a blog, I was able to increase the number of views through the habit of consistently writing even one short article a day. As I continued to write over the past year, the number of visitors coming in with specific keywords increased rapidly, and some of my posts were exposed at the top of searches, allowing me to gain unexpected traffic.
3. Don’t be afraid of failure
The book says that failure should be used as a springboard for growth. We have come to redefine life in terms of failure as an opportunity for us to learn.
Real life example: In the early days of blogging, the first post I wrote didn't get less than 10 views. However, I learned from my failure, studied SEO (search engine optimization), analyzed topics that readers would find interesting, and began writing strategically. As a result, the number of monthly blog views recently exceeded 50,000.
